BIG diet change !

Hey guys !

So new year, new goals and now a new way of eating ? Yes I am making a BIG nutritional change to going mostly planted based with still eating eggs and fish. As a bodybuilder this is not the 'common' thing that we normally eat but I have been having a lot of issues with digestion, food intake and limiting foods due to fear. For a long long time, I have been dealing with anorexia and an eating disorder. I feel that it's important for people to understand the background behind it all. I used to be ashamed of it but now if I explain my story, people can connect more and I can maybe help someone in the process.

So back to my decision to this change. First, I have a gluten intolerance that limits a lot of foods. However, this also leads to a lot of issues with absorbing nutrients and leads to more difficult times with getting enough vitamins. One of the biggest concerns is that meat comes from animals that are fed grains and wheat. Along with a lot more chemicals that is an irritant to my body personally. So this past week I did a semi experiment with limiting my animal protein consumption and replacing it with fish and eggs. I have had a major switch in my digestion. No more bubble gut ( which is embarrassing) no more bloating and no more irregular bowl movements. Sure talking about this might seem weird but there are some ( probably a lot more of you) that deal with some of this !

As a bodybuilder, it's been ingrained in our minds that we NEED to eat meat to build muscle. However, this is not always the case. If I asked you which has more protein, 100 calories of steak or 100 calories of broccoli which would you choose ? I hope you said broccoli because that has more! So if you are educated on what foods have a lot of protein like lentils, beans, veggies, fish and eggs there are plenty of options for you! So in all of this research I am attempting this for a month to see how my body will adapt and adjust to this new change.

Learning what works, what doesn't and how your body handles food is important. The one thing that I am also working on is the "fear" of foods. Yes this is the thought process that a certain food is off limits or bad for you. As I have been learning that balance is critical for you to remain healthy. Balance in food groups, nutrients and vitamins that keep your body healthy from the inside out.

I hope that this might help someone who might be having issues as well and I will keep updating you on this new journey !
